CS News and NACS Daily run stories on AWMA Study on Internet Sales of Cigarettes
Fairfax, VA (9/22/05) AWMA recently completed an in-depth study of the problem of illegal Internet sales of cigarettes and sent the report to every Member of Congress, all U.S. Attorneys Generals across the nation as well as various press outlets to bring this issue to their attention and to urge action to combat this widespread problem. Convenience Store News recently ran a story on the AWMA study in their electronic edition. Click here to read the article.
NACS Daily also ran a story on the AWMA study. Click here to read the article.
Both stories note the findings of the AWMA study indicating that despite the voluntary agreement by credit card companies to halt the use of credit cards in cigarette purchases online, this problem persists. Citing results of the AWMA study, both articles reiterate AWMAs contention that federal action is ultimately needed to ensure a comprehensive, effective solution to combat illegal Internet cigarette sales nationwide.
A copy of the AWMA study will be mailed to all our members in both PDF and hard copy format. Additionally, anyone interested in viewing the study may download it now (PDF, 336k).
