AWMA Submits Testimony on Behalf of HR 4081 – A Bill to Combat Illegal Internet Sales of Cigarettes

AWMA was invited to submit testimony for a hearing to be held on May 1 in the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.  The hearing is being held by the Subcommittee to investigate illegal activities with respect to cigarette trafficking.  Specifically, the Subcommittee will hear testimony on legislation – HR 4081 – that would crack down on the illegal Internet sales of cigarettes nationwide.  AWMA has supported this legislation – and similar legislation introduced in previous Congress’s – to ensure fair competition with respect to cigarette sales and to prevent criminal activity related to such sales.

Similar legislation introduced in the Senate by Senator Kohl – S. 1027 – has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and is awaiting further action on the Senate floor.

AWMA’s testimony will be included as part of the hearing record for the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.  To view AWMA’s testimony, simply click HERE.
