New Hampshire Governor Proposes 25-Cent/Pack Tax Increase

New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch has unveiled a budget proposal with plans to slash spending while increasing the cigarette tax from $1.08 to $1.33 per pack, a 25-cent increase that would generate $22 million.  “New Hampshire, like states across the nation, is being impacted by the slowdown in the national economy,” said Lynch. “We know our families are feeling the impact, and so is state government.”  In each of his past two budgets, Lynch has approved 28-cent cigarette tax increases.
